Follow these steps if you are interested in the Down Payment Assistance Program:

1. Fill out the Down Payment Assistance Program Application and return to the Hernando County Health and Human Services Department, 20 N. Main Street, Rm. 161, Brooksville, FL 34601
2. Contact a participating lender to get pre-approved for a mortgage.
3. Contact a Real Estate agent to identify vacant foreclosed properties in eligible areas and evaluate a property(s) that meet your needs and your budget.
4. Attend an 8-hour HUD certified housing counseling course provided by a HUD Certified Housing Counseling Agency.

5. The County will review your file and determine eligibility of your Down Payment Assistance Program Application. A letter will be sent to you accordingly.
6. Submit selected property, (recommended that you select more than one) to the County for determination of eligibility of the property. The County will assess and issue a determination letter.
7. Obtain a release to make offer from the County.
8. Work with lender and real estate agent to complete loan package, underwriting and address issues necessary to receive approval for first mortgage and home loan.
9. Attend pre-closing to sign County mortgage documents and all other grant required documents.
10. Attend your closing.
